What the installation involves
The work is the same in outline for every brand. A hole in the worktop or sink takes the tap itself. Under the sink, a tank or boiler is mounted in the cabinet and connected to the cold water supply, usually with a valve so the supply can be shut off for maintenance. The unit also needs power, which in most cases means a socket in or near the cabinet. Finally the tap is connected to the tank and the system is flushed and tested before you use it.
Details differ by brand and model: some taps ship with a separate tank, some are a single unit, and some add a filter, a chiller or a carbonator that needs more room and more connections. We do not describe a brand-specific procedure here, because the installation manual of your model is the source for that and varies.
Who fits a boiling water tap
Because the job touches both plumbing and electrics, most owners hire someone. That is usually a plumber, a kitchen fitter, or an installer who works with the brand. Our installer directory lists installers by area. Before you choose, check the warranty terms for your model, since some brands tie the warranty to installation by an approved installer. The Quooker warranty guide shows how warranty length differs per model.
What it costs
The recommended retail price of a boiling water tap does not include installation, and we have no sourced price for the work, so this guide does not quote one. Our installation cost estimator helps you work out a range for your situation, and an installer can quote for the actual job. Prices for the taps themselves are on each model page and in the Quooker tap prices guide. Once the tap is in, the running cost calculator shows what it costs to keep it running.
Check your cabinet before you buy
Measure the space under your sink before you pick a model. The tank sizes in the table below run from 2 to 7 litres, and a bigger tank needs a bigger cabinet. We have cabinet measurements for 3 of the 31 models, listed below. For the other models there are no dimensions in our data, so use the manufacturer's installation manual.
- Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 Electronic: boiler 340 mm high and 229 mm across, 35 mm tap hole, 210 to 222 mm spout reach, worktops up to 50 mm thick.
- Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 Mechanical: boiler 340 mm high and 229 mm across, 35 mm tap hole, 222 mm spout reach, worktops up to 50 mm thick.
- Franke Mythos Water Hub 6-in-1: under-sink unit 440 mm wide, 495 mm high and 200 mm deep, 35 mm tap hole, 210 mm spout reach, worktops up to 50 mm thick.
Keep in mind that a cabinet also holds pipes, a waste bin or a dishwasher connection. Check where the tank would go next to those, not only whether it fits on its own.
