What filtered, chilled and sparkling mean in these taps

A filtered tap runs the water through a cartridge before it reaches you. In these models the cartridge sits in the same unit as the boiling tank, so one tap gives boiling water and filtered water. The filter type in the table is the manufacturer's own description, copied into our data, and the interval is how often the manufacturer says to replace it.

A chilled tap adds a cooling unit, so the same tap gives cold water on top of boiling. A sparkling tap adds a CO2 cylinder and carbonates the chilled water. In our library 4 models chill and 3 also sparkle. They are the biggest systems: the chiller and the cylinder take cabinet space on top of the boiling tank.

Why a boiling tap with a filter can replace two taps

A separate filter tap and a boiling water tap mean two holes in the worktop and two sets of plumbing. A boiling tap with a filter puts both in one spout, so you keep the mixer for washing up and use the second tap for drinking water. That saves worktop space and one fitting. It does not remove the running cost: the filter is a recurring purchase, and the intervals in our data run from 6 to 12 months. Questions people ask

Can one tap give filtered, boiling and chilled water?
Yes, but only the larger systems do. Of the 21 taps in our library with a filter, 4 also chill or sparkle. The rest give filtered, boiling and normal cold water from a single tap.
Does a boiling water tap with a filter replace a separate filter tap?
It can, because the filtered water and the boiling water come from the same tap, so there is one hole in the worktop instead of two. Check whether the model filters the cold water too, which our table shows per model.
How often does the filter need replacing?
It depends on the model. 18 of the 21 filtered taps in our data state an interval, and the table lists it. For the others, the manufacturer's instructions apply. Our filter guide covers the cartridge side in more detail.
Do chilled and sparkling taps need more space?
Yes. A chiller and a CO2 cylinder need room under the sink on top of the boiling tank, so measure the cabinet before you choose. The sparkling water tap guide gives the unit sizes.
