Our take
By Peter Davelaar, who sold boiling water taps from 2016 to 2024
At £4,365 the HydroTap Classic is in a different category from the rest of this list, and reviewing it like a domestic boiling tap misses the point. This is a commercial-grade unit that Zip also sells into homes, and it delivers filtered boiling, chilled, and sparkling water through one tap with a full colour touchscreen, NSF-certified 0.2 micron filtration, and capacity to serve up to 100 cups of boiling and 75 glasses of chilled per hour.
The real selling point is the sparkling. No domestic-tier boiling tap gives you genuinely carbonated water on demand from the same fitting, and for households that currently buy bottled sparkling weekly the maths is less ridiculous than the sticker price suggests. The pin-protected boiling safety mode, "sleep when dark" energy-save sensor, and dual-check valve protection are all features that come from Zip's commercial line where they actually have to meet workplace safety standards, and they trickle down at no quality cost.
The case against is total cost of ownership and plain overkill. The tap itself is £4,365 before installation, and you are then committed to Zip's filter cartridges and CO2 canisters as a recurring spend. Trusted Reviews flagged the same point on the previous-generation G4: peerless performance, but you are buying a commercial appliance for a domestic kitchen that probably does not use the capacity. Choose the Classic only if you want sparkling on tap and run enough volume to justify the spend, otherwise a Quooker Fusion Round with the CUBE accessory at roughly half the price delivers most of the same flavour profile.
Running cost
Headline price is half the story. The Zip HydroTap Classic draws around 35 W at idle and reheats whenever the tank cools. Use the calculator with your own electricity tariff and household usage to see the 10-year total.
