The HydroTap G5 Celsius Arc (3-in-1) is the cheaper current Zip at £2,071. It holds 3 litres, heats to 98°C and draws 30 watts on standby and up to 2,200 watts at peak. Our data lists no chilled or sparkling water for it. It comes in Bright Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Matt Black and Gloss Black.

The HydroTap G5 Cube Plus costs £3,693. That is £1,622 more than the G5 Celsius Arc. It holds 3 litres and heats to 98°C, adds chilled water, draws 35 watts on standby and comes in 8 finishes: Bright Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Matt Black, Gloss Black, Platinum, Brushed Gold, Brushed Nickel and Gunmetal.

Tank size and temperature are the same on the two current taps, 3 litres and 98°C. The choice between them comes down to chilled water, standby power and the finish you want.

Both current taps use the Zip MicroPurity 0.2 micron filter, with a replacement every 12 months in our data. A filter change is a running cost on top of the tap, so add it to your budget.

The HydroTap Classic (£4,365, 4 litres, 99°C) is discontinued. It is the only Zip here with sparkling water. Our data lists no replacement, so check Zip's current range before you set it against the G5 models.

Standby power runs from 30 to 35 watts across the range. The tank stays hot all day, so that power is used whether or not you pour a cup. Work out the running cost for your own tariff before you pay for a Zip. Boiling water is adjustable on the G5 range, so a lower setting for tea or baby feeds is possible, and the table shows the maximum.
