Strengths and trade-offs

Hanstrom Saxan 4-in-1

What we like

  • Distinct square D-shape spout, Hanstrom's current square 4-in-1
  • Touchscreen presets (75/85/90/95°C) for tea, coffee and noodles
  • Genuine 4-in-1 with carbon-and-phosphate filtration (filtered boiling and filtered cold)
  • Usually sells around £399, undercutting most premium 4-in-1s

Watch out for

  • 75 to 98°C steaming hot, not a true 100°C boil
  • Boiler warranty is only 1 year (tap 2 years); 3 years needs a paid extension (~£99)
  • Permanent 'sale' pricing makes the £569 RRP a soft anchor
  • Younger brand with thin published specs (no peak wattage)

Qettle Signature Modern 4-in-1 (4L)

What we like

  • 4-litre tank serves up to 8 cups in one go
  • Marine-grade stainless steel tap, engineered in the UK
  • Two-stage child safety: button and turn before boiling water flows
  • Choice of round or square spout in stainless, PVD colour or etched finishes

Watch out for

  • 17.5-minute initial heat-up and 10-minute recovery after a full tank
  • Standard kit does not include a pressure reducing valve
  • Two-year warranty
